Save Yeppoon TAFE – Stop the Secret Plan

PETITION TO THE QUEENSLAND STATE PARLIAMENT

Save Yeppoon TAFE – Stop the Secret Plan

To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Queensland Legislative Assembly,

We, the undersigned residents of Queensland, oppose the proposed conversion of the Yeppoon TAFE site into an Aboriginal school for troubled and disengaged youth.

The decision has been made without proper community consultation, and the approval of the Queensland Government is still required.

We believe the Yeppoon TAFE site, located beside the Yeppoon High School on Tabone Street, is not an appropriate location for this initiative. A more suitable alternative should be considered in consultation with the community.

Totally unsuitable location. Needs to be based in Rockhampton where there are a lot more candidates for the service being provided, and just have a shuttle service.

There has been no transparency around the possible impact on local residents and how it will be managed. I am all for helping kids but needs a better location.

My home backs onto this facility’s carpark, honestly I am very scared for my family’s safely if this indigenous school goes ahead in this space. It needs to find another location!

I believe an area more for them , to feel supported as you have local homes and schooling, can cause different perceptions and create more unease, for the youth that needs help and support, a seperate location not near other schools , i hope they have. a great support system fro these youth that need guidance understanding and love and the right help to heal trauma, let tafe stay for its positive eductaional area for other youth and people in the community that desreve to have access
