Save Yeppoon TAFE – Stop the Secret Plan

PETITION TO THE QUEENSLAND STATE PARLIAMENT

Save Yeppoon TAFE – Stop the Secret Plan

To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Queensland Legislative Assembly,

We, the undersigned residents of Queensland, oppose the proposed conversion of the Yeppoon TAFE site into an Aboriginal school for troubled and disengaged youth.

The decision has been made without proper community consultation, and the approval of the Queensland Government is still required.

We believe the Yeppoon TAFE site, located beside the Yeppoon High School on Tabone Street, is not an appropriate location for this initiative. A more suitable alternative should be considered in consultation with the community.

I implore the government to grow some balls and build a facility where it is best suited. Not in a built up residential area next to a public school. Yes these children need to be offered education, but why can’t they learn like all Australians in public schools. Remember we are one nation. Albanese step in and correct this error of the qld government or I will vote otherwise

Education systems like this are great when located in the region where the problem exists. Rockhampton would be a better location due to the spread of populations and need.

No one was consulted or informed about this sale and the senior citizens group that use this facility have been ousted with nowhere suitable to go. I’m sure there are alternatives and funding available for the Indigenous school that isn’t available to other sections of the community.
