Cairns High Density Development Petition

A state government petition is proposed as follows:

Petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of Queensland Parliament so assembled. Therefore, your petitioners request the House to:

  1. ‘Call in’ the development proposed at 179 Buchan Street, Bungalow, using state government powers under the relevant town planning instruments, and review the approval granted, ensuring full transparency and proper public consultation.
  2. Reassess the suitability of high-density housing at this location, considering the existing community dynamics, safety, and welfare of current residents, particularly the elderly, who are disproportionately affected.
  3. Implement measures to ensure future state and community housing developments in Bungalow and similar communities are in harmony with local needs and infrastructure, promoting safety, community welfare, and a cohesive living environment.

    High density housing is not the solution

    As a born and bred local boy I’m against this type of development in once quiet neighbourhoods.

    Especially when long term residents are not notified of what is happening.

    I don’t want another housing unit behind my house as I already have a housing block directly in front of my house now, we have constant break ins, cars broken into, constant fighting, bottles broken on the road.. we would prefer you stop turning cairns into a ses pit flooded with young reckless aboriginal vandals and theives.. please relocate them somewhere else please… kind regards a member of the public who is sick and tired of these people..
