Cairns High Density Development Petition

A state government petition is proposed as follows:

Petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of Queensland Parliament so assembled. Therefore, your petitioners request the House to:

  1. ‘Call in’ the development proposed at 179 Buchan Street, Bungalow, using state government powers under the relevant town planning instruments, and review the approval granted, ensuring full transparency and proper public consultation.
  2. Reassess the suitability of high-density housing at this location, considering the existing community dynamics, safety, and welfare of current residents, particularly the elderly, who are disproportionately affected.
  3. Implement measures to ensure future state and community housing developments in Bungalow and similar communities are in harmony with local needs and infrastructure, promoting safety, community welfare, and a cohesive living environment.

Your petitioners, signed.

Over the past 12 years there has been a large increase in crime.

I have a security camera, I’ve recorded people trying to get into units or go through belongings on the patio or bin.

I have tracked many of these people to the housing commission on Winkworth St and the housing commission further down the road on Buchan St.

If a complex like this is able to go ahead it would be detrimental to the local area.

We are all already struggling to deal with the crime associated with the high density units in Winkworth and further down Buchan St.

There is an old man in his late 80’s who lives in the house next door, this would ruin his final peaceful years.

Please do not let this type off structure go ahead for the sake of everybody on the street and the community as a whole.

    Thank you

    Sincerely
