Cairns High Density Development Petition

A state government petition is proposed as follows:

Petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of Queensland Parliament so assembled. Therefore, your petitioners request the House to:

  1. ‘Call in’ the development proposed at 179 Buchan Street, Bungalow, using state government powers under the relevant town planning instruments, and review the approval granted, ensuring full transparency and proper public consultation.
  2. Reassess the suitability of high-density housing at this location, considering the existing community dynamics, safety, and welfare of current residents, particularly the elderly, who are disproportionately affected.
  3. Implement measures to ensure future state and community housing developments in Bungalow and similar communities are in harmony with local needs and infrastructure, promoting safety, community welfare, and a cohesive living environment.

    This high-density housing proposal is a reckless decision that will further damage our quiet, safe community. It’s a blatant disregard for the current residents, particularly the elderly who will bear the brunt of this ill-conceived development. The small property size and lack of proper infrastructure only exacerbates the issue. It’s an invitation for crime and disorder, which we already have enough of. We demand the Parliament reassess this proposal and prioritize the welfare and safety of the existing community over this blatant cash grab.
