Cairns High Density Development Petition
A state government petition is proposed as follows:
Petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of Queensland Parliament so assembled. Therefore, your petitioners request the House to:
- ‘Call in’ the development proposed at 179 Buchan Street, Bungalow, using state government powers under the relevant town planning instruments, and review the approval granted, ensuring full transparency and proper public consultation.
- Reassess the suitability of high-density housing at this location, considering the existing community dynamics, safety, and welfare of current residents, particularly the elderly, who are disproportionately affected.
- Implement measures to ensure future state and community housing developments in Bungalow and similar communities are in harmony with local needs and infrastructure, promoting safety, community welfare, and a cohesive living environment.
Your petitioners, signed.

Brandon Morrison signed 2024-06-28 09:29:54 +1000Complete lack of transparency by government/council with residents of the street and area. Furthermore the consequences of this development will diminish the value of property, community essence and bring crime closer to public spaces such as the Showgrounds, schools and the CBD. -
Jordan Thompson signed 2024-06-28 09:06:35 +1000Concerned for how this will also affect the nearby schools and public spaces such as the Showgrounds and parks. This construction not only affects the neighbouring homes but completely the diminishes the value of an entire suburb; bringing crime closer to the city centre and invading homes and existing business. The lack of care in Urban planning by the council needs to be addressed as it ruining or city already struggling with crime, this is by far not a solution and just shows how out of touch the people in government are.
