Cairns High Density Development Petition

A state government petition is proposed as follows:

Petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of Queensland Parliament so assembled. Therefore, your petitioners request the House to:

  1. ‘Call in’ the development proposed at 179 Buchan Street, Bungalow, using state government powers under the relevant town planning instruments, and review the approval granted, ensuring full transparency and proper public consultation.
  2. Reassess the suitability of high-density housing at this location, considering the existing community dynamics, safety, and welfare of current residents, particularly the elderly, who are disproportionately affected.
  3. Implement measures to ensure future state and community housing developments in Bungalow and similar communities are in harmony with local needs and infrastructure, promoting safety, community welfare, and a cohesive living environment.

Your petitioners, signed.

We have a social housing complex in Winkworth which causes so many issues in the street so I am totally against another one going up in Buchan street

I know there is a social housing project over my back fence, I worry for my safety and don’t understand why they want to put another one so close.

This is the one in Winkworh St.

Secrecy and No consultation for who it affects seems to be common place with these developments. So unfair to those who live nearby. Their Security, Privacy and Property value.

Our concerns have merit. The secrecy used to implement this build, the intentional lack of consultation, the complete disregard for neighbouring properties privacy already on high alert with security issues and this is the feedback from Councils Director of Planning Growth & Development Mr Ed Johnson, ‘Whilst I appreciate that you may have a different view, in the officers mind the development is compliant’ This illustrates the short sighted assessments council make whilst residents face very real safety, privacy & security concerns.
