Save Yeppoon TAFE – Stop the Secret Plan

To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Queensland Legislative Assembly,

We, the undersigned residents of Queensland, oppose the proposed conversion of the Yeppoon TAFE site into an Aboriginal school for troubled and disengaged youth.

The decision has been made without proper community consultation, and the approval of the Queensland Government is still required.

We believe the Yeppoon TAFE site, located beside the Yeppoon High School on Tabone Street, is not an appropriate location for this initiative. A more suitable alternative should be considered in consultation with the community.

    Where are the kids going to be accommodated. Like everywhere Yeppoon doesn’t have the availability for our own residents born and bred in Yeppoon. How are these kids going to be supervised. Crime in Yeppoon involving youth is increasing and the govt wants to bring troubled youth to our town, to our suburbs, right next to a mainstream high school. People deserve education, support and a place in society but it has to be earned not given. There are schools where these kids can go, they just don’t want to conform and then labelled troubled youth. There’s got to be a more suitable location and not in the middle of Yeppoon.

    What about other groups that use the facility? Are their needs not as important? The Yeppoon Seniors are now left without a meeting place.

    Keep the TAFE COMPLEX for local education for apprentices.
