Save Yeppoon TAFE – Stop the Secret Plan
PETITION TO THE QUEENSLAND STATE PARLIAMENT
Save Yeppoon TAFE – Stop the Secret Plan
To the Honourable Speaker and Members of the Queensland Legislative Assembly,
We, the undersigned residents of Queensland, oppose the proposed conversion of the Yeppoon TAFE site into an Aboriginal school for troubled and disengaged youth.
The decision has been made without proper community consultation, and the approval of the Queensland Government is still required.
We believe the Yeppoon TAFE site, located beside the Yeppoon High School on Tabone Street, is not an appropriate location for this initiative. A more suitable alternative should be considered in consultation with the community.

We saw what happen when Q over ment “tried” to rehouse indigenous persons back in the late 1990’s and the terror that was bought into the community. We saw first hand the vigilante groups that would tour the town, just to keep PEACE.
Longreach and Emerald have 2 pre existing Ag Colleges that are no longer in use and each college has land attached to it. Why not consider these places?
And why should our SENIORS be disposed again. We do NOTHING for our SENIORS…..nothing! And yet it’s this generation that also need greater support.
So it is a BIG NO from me, and I will be one person on that picket line or rally to voice my concerns! -

To gain qualifications and opportunity for a broader range of skill training. The concept needs to be in a location for agriculture, learning land conservation and trades. The proposed location does not offer this chance. If this proposed location was to be approved our young people will still have the difficulties of “in the classroom” learning. If the plan was to go ahead at the current location as proposed this is still a physical environment that has the same effect as a mainstream school. The concept needs to strengthen our young people connection to the land and learning with a total different perspective than the average classroom and school like building, kids need to see a change to feel a change in their environment to be able to engage and adjust. I feel that this location as proposed is not ideal. -

I would much rather it turn into a high care nursing home to replace Gus Moore Nursing home which was taken down on the Yeppoon beachfront and never replaced. Huge waiting list for our elderly here on the Capricorn Coast that have contributed to our community over many years and deserve better. Many people are having to go to Rockhampton to get into aged care. -
