Cairns High Density Development Petition

A state government petition is proposed as follows:

Petition to the Honourable the Speaker and Members of Queensland Parliament so assembled. Therefore, your petitioners request the House to:

  1. ‘Call in’ the development proposed at 179 Buchan Street, Bungalow, using state government powers under the relevant town planning instruments, and review the approval granted, ensuring full transparency and proper public consultation.
  2. Reassess the suitability of high-density housing at this location, considering the existing community dynamics, safety, and welfare of current residents, particularly the elderly, who are disproportionately affected.
  3. Implement measures to ensure future state and community housing developments in Bungalow and similar communities are in harmony with local needs and infrastructure, promoting safety, community welfare, and a cohesive living environment.

Your petitioners, signed.

Against this project, no consultation of the neighbours who will have to live next to it.

I’m dead against this proposal. This area is safe and quiet and we do not need a housing program like that in our area. Send the riff raff somewhere else

Crime is already out of control, in this area. The property is far too small and will encourage its residents to occupy and hang out in other areas of the nearby streets, car parks and unrelated properties. These streets are not monitored or patrolled, will bring even more crime to the area.
