One Nation forums a platform for all voices

Malcolm Roberts

I am writing in response to the recent article regarding the One Nation crime forum held at the Cairns Showground, where Mr Humphrey Hollins raised concerns about the nature of the event (7/9).

As a party that values free speech, we also believe in correcting any misrepresentations, which is why I feel compelled to clarify a few points.

Firstly, Mr Hollins' claim that he was "tricked" into attending a One Nation forum is simply not true.

Our forums are consistently advertised through various channels — SMS, email, phone, and online platforms — and are clearly identified as One Nation events.

The suggestion that a single sign, among many, did not prominently display One Nation's details and misled attendees is both unfounded and unfair.

As we address vital issues such as crime, energy and the cost of living, it's important to highlight that our forums are factual and data-driven.

One Nation takes pride in its reputation for integrity, and this forum was no different. Contrary to Mr Hollins' implication, the forum was not a "cover" for political campaigning, but a genuine opportunity to discuss real concerns affecting Queenslanders.

Our forums always include open Q&A sessions where we actively listen to people's concerns across a broad range of topics.

Our policy forums have played a significant role in shaping major policies for Queensland, and the feedback informs the comprehensive policy suite we have developed.

I make no apology for discussing a range of issues, including the failures of both Labor and Liberal governments that have contributed to the current crime crisis.

Mr Hollins' further complaint about the size of the authorisation text on our promotional material diverts attention from the more pressing issues, especially since there is no requirement to place an authorisation on signs at the moment.

Our focus, as always, is on engaging with the community and providing a platform for Queenslanders to voice their concerns.

Since my re-election, I have participated in hundreds of public forums across Queensland, all of which have been well-attended and have received positive feedback.

It's also worth noting that Mr Hollins stayed for the entire event. How else would he have detailed my speech so feverishly in his comments to the Cairns Post?

One Nation's public forums draw much larger crowds than those of the major parties. We will continue to host forums on all types of matters affecting Cairns residents.
