- Senator Roberts' Talks: Engagement and Relevance Survey
Peter Campion is One Nation’s candidate for Cook. A retired fireman, Peter has long fought to expose the ALP and LNP’s failures through newspapers, talkback radio and websites. He believes North Queensland, especially Cook, produces much of Queensland’s wealth but is hindered by excessive regulations.
“Primary industries in North Queensland, and in Cook in particular, produce much of the wealth that Queensland relies on, but they’re being hobbled by ALP and LNP policies. Our farmers, fishers and miners spend time and money negotiating a labyrinth of unwarranted regulations.”
Peter’s career includes being a field officer for the Department of Social Security’s FNQ region in the 1980s and 1990s and a firefighter, fire commander and fire investigator with the Queensland Fire Service from the 1990s to the 2010s, mainly based in Mareeba.
“I’ve worked to deliver government services to the people of Cook, so I know first-hand how hard it can be to get fair treatment from a government that’s so far away.”
Peter is critical of current infrastructure neglect, pointing to the stressed Barron bridge at Kuranda as an example. He argues that regional infrastructure is neglected while funds are diverted to projects like the Brisbane Olympics.
“One Nation is the new voice of the regions and as the Member for Cook, I’ll fight hard to ensure we get our fair share of the wealth we create.”
Peter is committed to addressing issues like juvenile crime, cost-of-living increases driven by climate policies, and overregulation, promising to restore prosperity and safety to Cook.
The government has ignored Cook for too long. That must change and I intend to change it.
