- Senator Roberts' Talks: Engagement and Relevance Survey

Katy McCallum is a dedicated wife and mum who owns and runs the Kilkivan General Store & Café. She resides with her family atop the scenic Black Snake Range, just west of Gympie.
Born and raised in Gatton in the Lockyer Valley in Queensland, Katy is a proud 1976 model. After completing her schooling, she began her career as a nursery hand at Pohlman's Nursery in Gatton. She then secured a coveted position as the 'Spare Parts Chick' at Carpenter Ford, becoming the first female to complete the Ford Motor Company Spare Parts Interpreter course in the microfiche days.
Katy initially pursued studies in Geography and History at the University of Queensland, aiming to become a high school teacher. However, her path changed when she started playing Rugby League and met a QLD Police Officer who was part of the QLD Women's State of Origin side. This encounter led to a 16-year career as a General Duties Police Officer, serving across the Northern Region in locations such as Boulia, Doomadgee, Mt Isa, Mornington Island, and Camooweal, before moving to Toowoomba and then Murgon. She resigned from the QPS in January 2018 to take ownership of the Kilkivan General Store and the Kilkivan Rural Store & Service Station alongside her husband.
Her policing career allowed her to excel in problem-solving, helping others, and ensuring community safety. Her time in remote and regional Queensland fostered a deep appreciation for community and the unique fabric of the Australian way of life. It was during these years that she noticed the changes threatening Aussie values.
For the past seven years, Katy has been a familiar face in Kilkivan, not only as the store owner but also as an active member of the Kilkivan Action Group, fighting against various 'Renewable Energy' projects in the Gympie Region. While new to politics, she is no stranger to standing up for those most vulnerable, protecting them and helping them. Katy McCallum is a strong, vocal advocate who will never back down from fighting for what is right.
I’m passionate about Gympie and I’ve dedicated my career to delivering for our community.
