Election Candidate Share their Thoughts on the Issue

One Nation's James Ashby said rail was once the optimal mode of transport for produce, heavy industry, explosives, and livestock when he was a young bloke.

"I know, because as kids we spent a lot of time around the rail yard with my grandfather who was station master in Inglewood and Mooloolah,” Mr Ashby said.

Rail is the most sensible alternative to road transport, while helping governments meet their over-zealous carbon emission targets, less maintenance on our roads, and safer conditions for drivers.

“We've seen that on both lines between Emu Park to Rock}' and Yeppoon to Rocky. Meanwhile new projects like the Inland Rail have been stifled by environmental legislation and cultural heritage reports.

“I would openly advocate alongside the RTBU for greater use of our rail corridors to alleviate the deaths on our roads, and ensure freight reaches its destination in a safe, cost effective manner.
