More Resources, Dog Units Needed To Deter Crime In Goondiwindi
More resources, dog units needed to deter crime in Goondiwindi
Police in need better resources – including dog units – to deter the youth crime which is terrorising and traumatising the Goondiwindi community.
One Nation candidate for Southern Downs and former police officer Liz Suduk said youth crime in Goondiwindi had put the community in an uncomfortable spotlight.
“Out-of-control youth crime in Goondiwindi has made national headlines, and that should be all that is needed to drive more police resources in the community to deter crime,” Ms Suduk said.
“Instead, the Miles Labor government is wasting precious time talking about cross-border issues and state jurisdictions.
“I was a police officer working in regional and city areas for 10 years. It’s been my experience that measures such as dog units and more frequent and visible police patrols are effective in deterring crime.
“Hot-headed young offenders looking for trouble will cool their heels if the alternative is facing highly trained police dogs and their expert handlers.
“Something has to be done. In Goondiwindi and across Queensland, people are living in fear in their homes. That is no way to live, yet this toxic and neglectful Labor government obviously has no plan and no empathy for communities under siege from youth crime. Our local LNP member has been ineffective in standing up for this community.
“One Nation has a comprehensive policy for dealing with escalating youth crime. We’ll advocate tougher penalties and police deterrent measures. We’ll advocate judicial accountability in cases where a court has released an offender on bail who commits more crime.
“We’ll advocate for restitution to victims of crime by parents of young offenders where parental neglect is demonstrated to be a factor. We’ll integrate proven intervention and redirection programs in the justice system to help young offenders turn their lives around.
“Community safety should be the first responsibility of any government. With the support of Southern Downs voters I’ll make this my first priority. Our community deserves nothing less.”
