A Decade of Undelivered Promises is Costing Dearly

Candidates for Keppel have struck out at last week’s announcement of works on GKI (Woppa) by the State Government, saying the announcement was too little and too late considering the State-controlled island delay in work has lasted more than a decade.

One Nation’s candidate for Keppel James Ashby said Labor’s $300 million dollar announcement is too little, too late for businesses and investors on Great Keppel Island who have waited for almost a decade to see any progress.

“You can’t buy people’s votes this late in the game,” Mr. Ashby said.

“This money would have gone a lot further if it was delivered 8 years ago when we still had power, water connected, public buildings, and culturally significant spaces and a fully appropriate walking track.”

“I fully support Council installing a new wastewater treatment facility and public toilets on the island because what’s previously been provided by the council has not been fit for purpose.”

“To restore Great Keppel Island to its former tourism glory, One Nation will lobby the government for an additional $100 million dollars that will build a new underwater jetty and fix the runway so aircraft can once again operate and take off from the island. Once Great Keppel Island has a serious State Government funding commitment, we’ll have a hope of attracting a private rebuild on the old resort site.”
